Representatives of the U.S. Olympic Committee
traveled to Waxahachie on Monday to honor an Olympic torchbearer.
Fourteen-year-old Ashley O'Rear was presented
with the first Olympic torch that will be used to help carry the Olympic
flame to the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City.
The torch was presented to Ashley by 1998
Olympic free style gold medalist Nikki Stone. Stone's visit to Waxahachie
was arranged by the Clayton Dabney Foundation benefitting children with
cancer.
The U.S. Olympic Committee selected Ashley
to be an official torchbearer in October for her courage and inspiration
to others. She will carry the Olympic flame as it passes through Dallas
on Dec. 12.
